Welcome to Low Standard Society, a thriving community born from a shared passion for custom cars and unique builds. We are a collective of enthusiasts united by a common name and a desire to explore the art of automotive creation, whether it’s through intricate modifications or practical, real-world solutions.
Our philosophy is deeply embedded in our name: “Low Standard Society”. For most of us, “Low” refers to our love for lowered cars and the “stance” culture – that distinctive summer look that truly sets a vehicle apart. But “Standard” hints at something more. We believe in building, experimenting, and often finding ingenious solutions to challenges. While we strive for quality, we also recognize that not every step is about textbook perfection. Sometimes, a project truly shines because of a clever “hack job” involving a zip tie or a well-placed self-tapping screw. This self-aware approach to building with both dedication and pragmatism is what drives us.
This platform is our space to share our custom builds, unique modifications, and the occasional wrench-spinning adventure. We invite you to explore our projects, join the discussion, and become a part of our journey as we continue to push boundaries and share our love for cars that stand out from the crowd.
Meet the Founder: Calle’s Story
Calle is the founder and driving force behind Low Standard Society, bringing a lifelong obsession with automobiles to the forefront. His journey into the world of cars began early, inheriting a deep-seated interest from his father and spending countless hours by his side in the garage.
This early exposure quickly evolved from pit bikes and ATVs to the quintessential Swedish youth vehicle – the A-Traktor. For our international audience, an A-Traktor is a unique Swedish vehicle, essentially a car re-engineered to be speed-limited and registered as a tractor, drivable from age 15. This early experience in modifying and adapting vehicles laid the groundwork for what was to come.
Just after turning 16, Calle embarked on his first “real” project: a 1996 Volvo 945 Turbo that had seen better days after an unfortunate ditch encounter. With his father’s guidance, this became a baptism by fire in automotive restoration. They tackled everything from replacing sills and doors, repairing floor panels, fabricating a new floor reinforcement, to engine tuning (boosting it from 136hp to an estimated 180hp), swapping gearboxes (from M47 to M90), and upgrading to Bilstein shock absorbers.
Since turning 18, Calle has owned and worked on over 25 cars, often buying the cheapest available that met his criteria and then repairing or lightly modifying them as needed. Today, his daily driver is a completely original 2016 Volvo V70 D4, a somewhat comical contrast to the custom builds he champions, fitting perfectly with the ‘sometimes Standard’ aspect of Low Standard Society’s philosophy.
From a young age, Calle has always enjoyed the challenge of figuring things out. This hands-on approach has been honed through years of experience, whether it was finding the most efficient way to route massive cables in his construction work, or tackling a complex problem in the garage. It’s this practical, solution-oriented mindset that he brings to every Low Standard Society build.
